About Us
Shadhika is a non-profit, secular, apolitical US foundation. Our mission is to assist needy women and children in India by funding select non-profit initiatives there. Juthica Stangl founded Shadhika in 1992 helping just nine women. We now serve several hundred a year.
How are we different?
We carefully select deserving local agencies in India, focusing on "grass roots" organizations with quality, integrity and strong, dedicated leadership. We often provide "early stage" funding as well as operational and strategic advice. We help the agencies get established and become eligible for more significant funding from other sources. We also personally visit all projects and encourage collaboration between them.
Zero Overhead
Shadhika supports only worthy organizations with small budgets and sparse support from other sources and where funds are used primarily to deliver service. Shadhika is proud to be a "zero overhead" foundation. There is no paid staff, and Shadhika's Board members cover all expenses including administrative, publicity and fund-raising efforts. This means that 100% of your contribution goes directly to a project helping women and children in India.
