Students at USD’s Gather for Girls trivia event.

“The club’s main event was to host a fundraiser at the end of the semester in order to raise funds to support girls’ education in India. As a group, the club agreed to set a goal of $500, enough funds to send a girl to an entire year of secondary education. Through planning, marketing, and getting friends involved, the event included a catered lunch from a local Indian restaurant, hearing a guest speaker from San Diego Diplomacy Council discuss women empowerment through locally led initiatives, hosting a discussion amongst students about the importance of education, and participating in a fun trivia game afterward. Over a three week period, over 30 students came together and donated their time and money to our cause and we not only reached our goal of $500 but surpassed it and raised a total of $700! In addition to reaching our goal of educating a girl for an entire year, we also raised enough funds to help another girl attend school through funding transportation and meal costs. Students in this community were given the access to compassionate action through awareness building and public outreach in order to impact another student’s life in a world where her education may not have been possible.” – Ele Brugger
