Program Officer – Denver

Shadhika provides funding and support to women-led, locally controlled non-profits in India working to empower at-risk girls so they – and India – can realize their aspirations for a better future. We break the cycle of poverty an address gender inequality in India by investing in the education, empowerment, and economic self-sufficiency of young women and girls.

 

Position Summary:

  • The Program Officer reports to the President & CEO and works with Shadhika staff, our grantee partners, donors, and board members to design, implement and manage Shadhika’s grant programs and/or donor engagement programs in India, including, but not limited to, Shadhika’s Girls’ Writes Program, a supplemental English grant program; Shadhika’s Scholars Program, a 3-year college scholarship program; the Rabia Khatoon Memorial Computer Fund, a small grant program which provides laptops and computer training to scholarship students; our Girls for Change Summit, an annual 4-day conference for scholarship students, and; our quarterly webinar series to educate donors on the issues and impact of Shadhika’s work.
  • The Program Officer will be responsible for ensuring Shadhika meets its program outcome goals through on-going program management. He/ she will review grant proposals, perform due diligence work, manage current grants, evaluate grant results and make recommendations to the appropriate grant committees, the President & CEO, and/or the Board of Directors. As Shadhika donors are engaged in each of these programs, the Program Officer will have consistent and proactive communications with donors in a customer service-oriented manner. The dynamic role will have opportunities to interact with donors across the country as well as with grantees and students in India.
  • The Program Officer is a pivotal member of the Shadhika team, contributing ideas, strategic thinking, organizational networking and collaboration to aid us in achieving our mission.

 

Job Description: 

  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate delegated Shadhika’s programs to achieve our mission.
  • Review and evaluate grant proposals/ applications submitted to Shadhika.
  • Ensure grantee partners maintain good standing according Shadhika and U.S. IRS guidelines.
  • Conduct site visits and maintain on-going relationships with grantee partners to ensure successful program implementation.
  • Communicate with grant applicants and serve as Shadhika’s principal contact with our grantee partners.
  • Prepare regular reports on program activities and impact for Shadhika staff, donors, and Board of Directors.
  • Work with our Program Officer in India to plan and execute Shadhika’s annual Girls for Change Summit in India as well as support the development and execution of other Shadhika visits (donor trip, board visits, etc.)
  • In conjunction with Shadhika staff and donors develop and implement additional programs as needed to achieve our mission.
  • Work with Shadhika staff to support communications and fundraising activities, including providing written and visual information and grant proposal content.
  • Keep current on issues and trends in the field and provide updates as needed to Shadhika staff and/or board.
  • Maintain clear and timely records.
  • Coordinate and manage donor engagement in programs including committee calls and pen pal programs as needed.
  • With Program Officer in India, develop, assess and monitor annual Shadhika Program work plans and budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Commitment to Women’s Empowerment, Gender Equality, and International Development.
  • 3-5 years of foundation or nonprofit experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, graduate work and/or graduate degree in related field required.
  • Self-starter who is willing to support and lead projects, working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-energy and team-oriented environment.
  • Results-oriented and strong ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to travel to India for up to one month on an annual basis and to travel within the US as needed.
  • Ability to lead meetings, discussions and direct them to a reasonable conclusion.
  • Personal maturity to accept constructive criticism and maintain a positive outlook.
  • Ability to review complex narratives and proposals and make recommendations consistent with Shadhika’s philosophy and culture.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and draw reasonable conclusions.
  • Ability to read and analyze program budgets and financial statements.
  • Ability to prepare and present written and oral information on Shadhika grant programs.

  • Must live in Denver, CO Metro area.

 

Overview:

  • Location: Posner Center 1031 33rd St Denver, CO 80205 (must be able to work in Denver)
  • Hours Per Week: 40
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience
